Who we are

How you sign in

You can sign in with your email address (with a password or a one-time code we email you), with Sign in with Apple, or with Google. Sign-in is handled by Supabase. If you use Apple or Google, we receive your email address and, if you share it, your name, which we only use to suggest a handle. If you choose "Hide My Email" with Apple, we only ever see Apple's relay address.

What we collect

To run Bee Duels, we store:

• Your email address — used to sign you in, recover your account, and send account-related notices.
• Your handle — the @username you choose to appear to other players.
• Game data — the challenges you send and receive, your scores, streaks, leaderboard standing, your friend and rival connections, and — if you join a team — your team's name, its members, and team match results.
• Your device's timezone — a standard IANA timezone identifier (for example, "America/Chicago"), used to reset daily limits at your local midnight.
• Spelling clips, if you record one. See "Camera and clips" below.
• Usage events, such as "opened the app", "heard a word", "sent a word" or "spelled it right". See "Analytics" below.
• Push notification tokens — a device identifier used to deliver notifications about challenges and game activity. Tokens are only collected if you allow notifications, and you can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.

We do not ask for your address or any payment information. You can also play without an account at all ("Just play"). In that mode your game lives only on your device; the only thing we receive is the anonymous usage events described under "Analytics", tied to a random ID for your install rather than to you.

Contacts (optional)

If you choose to find friends from your contacts, Bee Duels scrambles the email addresses on your device using a one-way hash and compares only those scrambled values against scrambled values from other players who opted in. Your contacts never leave your phone in readable form — no names, no phone numbers, no plain email addresses. You can decline contact access and the rest of the app works exactly the same.

Camera and clips

Bee Duels shows your camera while you spell ("spell cam"), and you can switch it off. The camera is only recorded when you record a clip, for example spelling a word or a message on an invite. A clip includes sound unless you mute it. Bee Duels adds its logo to the clip on your phone before anything is uploaded.

If you send a clip, it is uploaded to our storage on Cloudflare and shown to the people you send it to. Anyone you give an invite link to can see the clip on that invite. Clips on a word you sent are held back from your rival until they have answered it. Clips are never used for advertising and are never sold. Deleting your account removes the link between you and your clips.

Microphone and speech recognition

Bee Duels uses your device's microphone and on-device speech recognition to let you spell words out loud. That processing happens on your device, using your operating system's built-in speech recognition, and only the recognized letters are used to check your answer. Your voice is not stored or sent anywhere while you spell, unless you are recording a clip with sound (see "Camera and clips").

Analytics

To learn where the game is confusing, Bee Duels records simple usage events, for example "opened the app", "heard a word", "spelled a word (right or wrong)", "sent a word" or "opened an invite". Each event carries your account (if you have one), a random ID for your install, your platform (iOS, Android or web), the app version and the time. Events never contain the word, what you typed or said, your contacts, or anything you wrote.

These events are stored in our own database on Supabase and read only by us. No third-party analytics or advertising service is involved. They are deleted along with your account.

No ads, no third-party tracking

Bee Duels does not display ads and does not include third-party tracking, advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data to anyone, for any purpose.

In-app purchases

Bee Duels may offer optional in-app purchases in the future, such as additional word packs. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — we do not receive or store your payment information.

Where your data lives

Your account and game data are hosted on Supabase. This website and Bee Duels's supporting infrastructure run on Cloudflare.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only parties that touch your data are the service providers that keep Bee Duels running, such as Supabase (database, sign-in and analytics), Cloudflare (this website and clip storage), Apple and Google (only if you choose to sign in with them), and Apple and Google again for delivering push notifications.

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can delete your account and all associated data directly from the app at any time (see below), or you can email us to make any of these requests and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Deleting your account

You control your data. You can permanently delete your account from within the app's settings. This removes your profile, game history, and connections, and cannot be undone — take your time before you confirm.

Children

Bee Duels is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes that matter, we will update this page and change the effective date above.
